“This past year has been a time for all of us to focus on the care of our families, our friends, and our communities,” remarked TCWPA President Anthony Hodges who went on to share “As we have navigated this difficult year our Tennessee Civil War battlefield preservation community has had to adjust, reschedule tours, go “virtual” for our meetings – and examine how we continue the work of our mission while ensuring our members’ safety. At TCWPA the Board and staff took advantage of this time to catch up on work with the statewide members’ help we have researched and published the monthly e-history stories and license plate revenues have supported seven preservation grants. Many of us have joined the hundreds who have visited Tennessee’s Civil War battlefields – those special places we all care so much about – which by their very nature are healthy outdoor learning environments.”
Like many of you, we are “zooming” together with Board members and Preservation Plan team meetings. What we have missed most however, are the Three Star tours and the Annual meeting and Preservation tour. In 2019 the tours took us to fascinating and lesser – known Civil War sites in Tennessee. While we were disappointed we could not explore the sites planned for 2020, we are ready to pull those plans off the shelf and set up the tours as soon as we can in 2021!
