TCWPA President Joe Smyth presented Billy King, of Denmark, TN, the 2016 Robert A. Ragland Award at the May 14th Annual Members meeting. Smyth cited Mr. King’s leadership in preserving sites in Madison County and nearby sites in west Tennessee as key factors in his selection for the award. “Mr. King helped found the Big Black Creek Historical Association, dedicated to the preservation of several historic homes, churches, cemeteries, and Civil War sites in the Big Black Creek area of Madison County”, said President Smyth.
In addition, he was instrumental in getting sites listed on the National Register and acquiring Civil War interpretive markers for an area rich in Civil War history. An active community leader, fund raiser, historian, researcher and author on numerous issues related to Civil War history and preservation, Billy King is deserving recipient of the 2016 Robert Ragland Award.
Mr. King designated the Big Black Creek Historic Association as recipient of the award’s $500.00 grant made in his honor.
