After crossing the Tennessee River at Loudon the Confederate First Corps (Lieut. Gen. James Longstreet) skirmished with the Union forces of Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside (Department of the Ohio). Burnside eventually fell back toward Knoxville and engage Longstreet at Campbell’s Station on November 16, 1863.
