On June 25, 1863 as part of the Tullahoma Campaign, Union cavalry pickets under Brig. Gen. David Stanley were driven back near Fosterville. After a skirmish with the 5 th Iowa and 4 th Michigan Cavalry regiments, Confederate cavalry retreated from Fosterville to Guy’s Gap.
